On this day... 1966
A new band called Jimi Hendrix Experience records their first single, the now ultra-classic, "Hey Joe".
The
version that inspired Hendrix to record this came from a Folk singer
named Tim Rose, who was a popular singer/songwriter for a short time in
the Greenwich Village scene, but quickly faded into obscurity before
making a small comeback in the '90s. Since the song has no confirmed
writer or copyright, it can be recorded royalty free by anyone.
More Jimi coming up on the final edition of Rocktober Saturday Night... on Saturday night!
